Taking Stock / 04

It's been a heck of a lot longer than I thought since my last Taking Stock.

It was totally worth the wait, I'm sure.

Making: lists upon lists of things I need to pack for our trip to Hawaii.  So far it includes almost everything but the kitchen sink.

Cooking: chicken fajitas and trying not to make out with my crock pot.

Drinking: water, water, and more water.  And some Mother's Milk tea.

Reading: Wild by Cheryl Strayed

Wanting: time to slow the eff down.

Looking: at Honolulu's weather forecast and drooling.

Playing: dinosaurs, dragons, and sharks with my little love.  All consist of us chasing each other around the house yelling "RAWR!"

Wishing: my pants didn't give me a muffin top.

Enjoying: any excuse to wear yoga pants because... see above.

Loving: seeing Zoey smile her big, gummy smile.

Pondering: what to put on my Christmas wish list.  I'm the worst so I have to start thinking extra early.

Considering: starting 5am weekday-wake ups so I can get a workout in before work but then I think "eh, better not."

Watching: my babies on the video monitor.  One is asleep and one is hoarding blankets.

Needing: to workout.  For the sake of my sanity.  And my muffin top.

Wearing: yoga pants and a t-shirt.

Following: Harry Potter or Game of Thrones fan theories.

Noticing: I'm slightly obsessed with Harry Potter and Game of Thrones fan theories.

Admiring: other people's abilities to not obsess about their kids' sleep.

Sorting: fall and winter clothes for the kids.

Buying: reusable swim diapers for Hawaii.

Getting: pathetically excited for Fall TV.  Hello, Grey's Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder.

Bookmarking: potty training tips.

Disliking: that Camden's third birthday is just three months away.  Someone hold me.

Feeling: all the feelings.  What else is new?

Snacking: on Aussie Bites.  All day long.

Coveting: baby headbands and pretty much everything at lolabeanjewelry.

Wishing: Camden would potty train himself.

Helping: myself to Brookside Dark Chocolate-Covered Acai & Blueberries after Zoey goes to bed.  I have to reward myself for surviving the day somehow.

Hearing: this on repeat.  It's my shower jam.

Lately

I have started this post about 17 times now.  I get distracted by my children, my mommy brain, or randomly fall asleep because I have a moment of silence and I instinctively try to catch a cat nap.

It seems like a lot and nothing has been going on all at the same time the past couple (almost two!) months.  We are busy acclimating to life as a family of four.  For the first several weeks of Zoey's life, I was more than a wee bit terrified of having two kids and wondering if I was going to be able to keep my head above water.  I'm happy to report I've found my not-back-to-work-yet-but-I-have-two-kids-groove and I'll worry about the working-full-time-and-I-have-two-kids-groove later.

So, what's new?

- I'm basking in the glow of my maternity leave and the thought of returning to work makes me throw up a little bit in my mouth.  My biggest guilty pleasure has been watching Kelly and Michael.

- Second biggest guilty pleasure (that I wish was a carton of mint chocolate chip ice cream!) is binge watching on Netflix.  I finished the third season of Orange is the New Black, finally got to watch the final season of Parenthood (on Hulu, thank you for the suggestion Tiff!) and bawled my eyes out, and just finished the first season of Grace and Frankie.

That makes me sound like all I do is watch television, but I promise you I do other things like take naps.

- Speaking of Tiff, she and the kids (and her aunt!) are coming to visit us next week and I cannot even explain how excited I am.  My heart is happy and full and they aren't even here yet.

 - We'll be flying to St. Louis in August for Ryan's cousin's wedding.  This will be the first time we've flown with two kids and maybe I'm setting myself up for disaster but I'm feeling mostly confident.  I've been trying to find a dress to wear to the wedding that is flattering, comfortable yet wedding-appropriate, and nursing-friendly and I'm starting to wonder if such a dress exists.

- I would just like to mention (again!) that the airfare to St. Louis was outrageous.  Seriously, I'm wondering if Alaska Airlines fully understands the concept of supply and demand.  I'm pretty sure people aren't lining up to travel to the hot and humid August that is St. Louis, Missouri.

- I have a work trip to Hawaii in mid-September and we've decided to make a family vacation out of it.  Ryan, the brave soul, will watch the kids during the day while I'm in my meeting, and he will run away for a cocktail as soon as I return.  Kidding, I hope.  To be honest, I am very excited and my online shopping habits has never been more worrisome in preparation for this adventure.

- The airfare to Honolulu was cheaper than the airfare to St. Louis.  Again, I ask in what world does that make sense, Alaska Airlines?!

- I've concluded that neither Ryan, Camden, or Zoey can ever say that I don't love them.  On two occasions now I have packed up my children and gone down to the frozen yogurt shop to get Ryan a cup and left without any for myself.  Cutting dairy from my diet has proved to be a wise decision for Zoey's stomach, so I continue on and sacrifice my love for milk products - hence, no fro yo for mommy.  Last week Camden randomly (and very excitedly!) asked to go swimming at the CCA (he meant YMCA) and he was so darn excited I just couldn't say no.  Ryan needed to study so at seven weeks postpartum, I handed off Zoey, grabbed my bikini, prayed I wouldn't see anyone I knew, and took my sweet boy swimming.  I vowed not to make eye contact with anyone and pretended to be invisible to everyone other than the happiest little guy in the pool.

- Camden's understanding seems to have shifted and I'm convinced he thinks his OK ot Wake! alarm clock tells him when to get up and not that it's OK to get up.  It's currently set for 6:35 and swear I will watch him on the monitor and he will be dead asleep at 6:34, roll around at 6:35 and peek at his (now green) clock, and immediately hop out of bed.  If I don't immediately free him from his bed chamber he will fake cry until I do and then proudly jump around and point to his clock saying, "it turned green, Mommy!"

- Several weeks ago when Zoey was very new, and in an effort to show Camden that he was still special and loved, we took him bowling after Ryan got off work.  We went to our lane with his little six pound, orange, child's ball but he was adamant that he want a blue one.  Seriously, before Ryan or I could tell him, "no!" or run over to stop him, he was helping himself to a lovely 15 pound blue ball off the rack.  I don't even know how he managed to get it off that the rack as quick as he did but he promptly dropped it on his toe and even more promptly started to open-mouth-no-sound-cry.  We weren't too surprised when his big toenail fell off this weekend. #parentsofthecentury

- We took Camden to see Minions in the movie theater and set our expectations really, really low.  I figured, both he and Zoey were free and it was a matinee showing, so if we had to bail early we were only out the cost of our adult tickets.  I was a little worried when sitting in my lap after the first preview, he turned around to face me and said, "OK, all done!"  We assured him it was worth it to stick around and watch and may or may not have bribed him with some M&Ms (emmy ems if speak Camnado).  Zoey slept through the whole show and he got a little restless towards the end, but we made it to the credit roll.

- The cashier at the store yesterday asked me if Zoey was mine and after I gave her a very confused look she laughed and told me that I don't look like I would have a baby that young.  I laughed  a big, hearty "HA!" and then asked her if I could hug her.  She returned my confused look and I quickly told her that she had just made my day.

Totally exciting stuff, right?  You're welcome.

Taking Stock / 03

Camden is spending the afternoon with my mom and I am pathetically bored at home, with nothing but laundry to occupy my time.  How is it that he stretches me to my limits on a daily basis and I am wishing for some peace and quiet, yet when I have some peace and quiet I'm wishing for my Hammy?

It was just before Christmas that I did my last Taking Stock post, so let's just say that my Cam-less afternoon has turned into your lucky day.

Making: list upon list upon list of things I need to buy and do before this baby comes.

Cooking: steak fajitas.  Of which I will only be able to stomach the veggies.

Drinking: water.  Like it's my j-o-b.

Wanting: the next 6-7 weeks to pass by quickly and slowly all at the same time.

Looking: at all these little baby girl clothes just waiting to be worn.

Playing: "Get back in bed" with Camden at bedtime since transitioning to a toddler bed.

Wishing: Camden didn't think it was so hilarious to get out of his bed.

Enjoying: feeling this baby have dance parties.  Sister has moves already, I can tell.

Loving: any picture of Eloise and Rosie.

Pondering: if baby sister will have blonde hair and blue eyes like Camden or brown hair and brown eyes like her Daddy.  I would have bet big money that Cam would have had dark hair and dark eyes like Ryan.

Considering: whether or not I should go shopping for a few more maternity items or just make what I've got work.

Watching:  Season 4 of Parenthood.

Needing: nursing friendly, light, and non-clingy postpartum clothes for the summer.  Joy.

Wearing: jeans, a comfy shirt, and scarf.

Following: @mommasgonecity and her #TheoandBeau series.

Noticing: that even though I feel twice the size I did at this stage in Camden's pregnancy, I look almost exactly the same.  For now.

Admiring: Ryan's hard work in the yard this weekend.  He bought and spread over 40 bags of mulch and it looks fantastic.  Side note, I ate a cookie while he loaded 15 bags into the car.  #proudpregnancymoment

Sorting: tiny baby girl clothes.

Buying: tickets for us to take Camden on the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad this summer.  Just seeing the train on the website got the little train loving turkey all in a tizzy.

Getting: excited to meet our baby girl.  Duh.

Bookmarking: this because motherhood is really freaking hard and really freaking awesome.

Disliking: that baby sister's head is all up in my ribs but loving all her movement and ninja kicks.

Feeling: ridiculously excited that Season 5 of Game of Thrones premieres tonight.

Snacking: a lot.

Coveting: sibling Halloween costume ideas.  However ridiculously early it may be.

Wishing: August air fare to St. Louis wasn't as ridiculously expensive as it is.  Not cool.

Helping: myself to all the foot and back rubs I can pry out of my hubby's hands.

Hearing: this and always feeling appreciative of Grey's Anatomy's music selections.

And because I can't not post a picture of my pride and joy.

Taking Stock / 02

It's been awhile since I last took stock.  With it being two days until Christmas, why not reflect upon the crazy?

Making: Puppy chow.  Not the puppy kind, but the human kind.

Cooking: Ryan's grandma's sausage rice for Christmas Eve.

Drinking: Lemonade.  Lots of lemonade.

Reading: The First Family by David Baldacci and Thomas' Tales of Discovery.  Over and over and over.

Wanting: Christmas Day to pass by slowly.

Looking: at my growing belly.

Playing: "Ready, Set, Go!" with Camden.  This is where he backs himself up against his kitchen, and when I say, "Ready, Set, Go!" he runs into my arms and I lift him up into Superman.  It is exhausting.

Wishing: Camden didn't like "Ready, Set, Go" so much.

Enjoying: the holiday season in all it's crazy glory.

Loving: that as of Thursday, I will have seven days off work.  Amen, hallelujah.

Pondering: whether this little baby is a boy or girl.

Considering: baby names.  So many baby names.

Watching: Christmas movies.

Needing: stretchier pants.

Wearing: a comfy, cozy sweatshirt.

Following: @itsahuntlife on Instagram (tales of me and the husband) and swooning at pictures of her new squishy baby.

Noticing: Camden's weekly gymnastics class is making him brave and adventurous when it comes to climbing on and jumping off things.

Admiring: the Christmas jammies I found for Cam.

Sorting: Christmas gifts.

Buying: last minute gift cards and stocking stuffers.

Getting: really, really excited to see Camden's face on Christmas morning.

Bookmarking: tips on transitioning a child from a crib to a toddler bed.

Disliking: the fact that Camden will no longer be confined to his baby cage.  I kid on the baby cage part.

Feeling: unlucky when sneezing.  If my bladder is even remotely full - I'm in trouble.  Too much?

Snacking: on anything and everything.  This mommy is hungry.

Coveting: next year's matching Christmas jammies for Camden and his baby brother or baby sister.  Which one will it be?!

Wishing: it was January 5th so we would know the sex of this babe.

Helping: myself to as much puppy chow as I want.

Hearing: this song and getting the chilly chills every time.

Camden Lately

Pretty soon, my little Hammy Boy will be two years old.  Two!  It's safe to say that I have been terrible about documenting the little man he's turning into, considering I haven't briefed you on his latest achievements since he was 18 months old.  Lucky for you, that's about to change.

Here's some Camden Lately, at 22 months.

- Has started taking gymnastics class on Saturday mornings.  This boy loves to run, climb, jump, and say "ta-da."

- Thinks me zipping up his footie pajamas is hyst-erical.

- Will say "bessou" (bless you) after I sneeze.

- Can repeat the ABCs (this is not to be confused with saying/singing the ABCs on his own) and always gets stuck on "H" and "O."

- Has established a borderline-unhealthy relationship with his pacifiers.  Yes, I said pacifiers, as in more than one.  He discovered he has two (Franky the Frog and Ducky the Duck) and thinks having both at the same time is totally necessary.

- Has miraculously started answering questions with either "no," or "yeah."  This makes trying to figure out what he wants/doesn't want infinitely easier.

- Has started tossed out a few defiant "no's."  A few gym classes ago (I don't think he was feeling 100%), after asking him to (gasp!) follow the coaches directions, he pointed at me and repeatedly said, "no!"  It was one of those times that I knew I shouldn't react to the behavior but I was laughing, laughing, laughing.

- Is semi-obsessed with trains - especially Thomas & Friends, but he only knows Thomas and Percy (which sometimes, with his little lisp, comes out sounding more like something else....... I'll let you guess).

- Also loves cars, trucks, tractors, and boats.

- Loves his daycare and will randomly say his daycare lady's name and those of his friends.

- Sometimes eats great, and other times not so much.  I try not to stress about it.

- Speaking of food, would eat an entire box of graham crackers if I let him.

- If you ask him what color something is, it's always "blue." Even oranges.

- His favorite thing to do at swim lessons?  Jump, unassisted, into my arms, and sing/dance along to "I'm Going Fishing."  His least favorite thing to do at swim lessons?  Get dunked under water.

- Loves to curl up in my lap and have books read to him - especially train books so he can repeat the "whoo whoo" sound.

- Still loves Bubble Guppies and requests "Bubble Cow," every day. His favorite episode is titled, "Have a Cow," and it's all about farms and the animals that live there.

- Has now been on 10 airplane flights and to five states.

- Sometimes calls me "Mom," instead of "Mommy."  I'm going to push this "Mommy" thing for as long as I can.

- Learning lots of animals and their names with some amazing flashcards I got out of the Target dollar bin. Pronunciation is fun. Fox sounds like "fock" which sounds like....... I'll let you guess.

- Couldn't even begin to list the number of words he says.

- Says "please," and "thank you."  I tell Ryan that if nothing else - this boy will have manners.

- Says, "sorry."  A lot.

- Likes to throw his toys (and anything else he's not supposed to throw).  This may or may not have something to do with why he says "sorry," so much.

I love this kid more everyday.  Except when he throws his trains at me.

That's all I can think of now.  You're welcome.

Taking Stock

Copying my dearest Tiff and Taking Stock.

Making: lists to prepare myself for the crazy month of September.

Cooking: Cara's spaghetti.  I really need to share this life changing recipe.

Drinking: water and telling myself it's cherry coke.

Reading: The Target by David Baldacci and Steam Train Dream Train by Sherri Duskey Rinker.  The latter with my eyes closed.

Wanting: to win the lottery.

Looking: at the fine lines and crow's feet taking residence on my face.

Playing: with choo-choo trains and "don't hit mommy with your golf club."

Wishing: Camden would stop using his golf clubs as weapons.

Enjoying: the last stretch of summer.

Loving: having quiet time with Ryan after Hammy goes to bed.

Pondering: what Camden will dress up as for Halloween this year.

Considering: shaving my head.  Just kidding.

Watching: ALS Ice Bucket Challenge videos.  Cannot get enough.

Needing: to purchase some oversized sweaters, boots, and scarves.

Wearing: exercise clothes to give off the illusion that I'm actually exercising.

Following: tonight's Emmy Awards coverage.

Noticing: Camden's attachment to Franky (Kiki) is increasing at an alarming rate.

Admiring: our fence and all its enclosing glory.

Sorting: through Camden's clothes to see what he needs for the cooler, fall weather.

Buying: more choo-choo books.  One can only read Steam Train Dream Train so many times.

Getting: really excited to see Tiff and Huck in 10 days.  10 days!

Bookmarking: links about traveling to Thailand.

Disliking: the thought of traveling to Thailand for a two day meeting.

Feeling: nervous to fly alone with my wild beast.  In 10 days!

Snacking: constantly.  Who needs actual meals?

Coveting: the new seasons of Glee, Grey's Anatomy, Homeland, and The Walking Dead.

Wishing: people were quicker to praise and slower to criticize.

Helping: ease my nerves about flying solo with Camnado by setting my expectations really, really, really low.

Hearing: this song and immediately feeling calm.

Lately

Instead of trying to write out the latest happenings in several different posts, I figured I would knock it all out in one.

- We're slowly getting settled in the house.

- Ryan has been working 12 hour shifts for the last month, hence the slow settling speed.

- Cam started Kipper swim lessons a few weeks ago.  We love his instructor, he loves to jump off the side and into the pool, and other than some little turd pooping in the middle of lessons last Saturday, I'd say it's going quite well.

- September is looking to be a busy (and wonderful) month.  Cam and I jet off early in the month to see The Terry Family and then at the end of the month, we are taking a family vacation with Ryan's parents and sister (and her family) to Southern California - complete with a day at Disneyland.  I'm not trying to wish time away, but I. Cannot. Frigging. Wait.

- It's been hizity-hot here in the Pacific Northwest.  We normally have a very mild climate - not too hot and not too cold, but the low 90's are a smidge too high for us non-air conditioned folk.  The nighttime in the most uncomfortable.  I would let Cammy sleep naked but I have this deep rooted fear of waking up in the morning to a poop filled crib and child, even though he has no idea how to remove his diaper (yet).

- Ryan's parents came for a visit at the end of June and they were super helpful in getting settled and helping us fix a lot of the little things that needed fixing around here.  Ryan's sister and her family were supposed to join for a quick weekend, but they ran into some plane trouble and never left St. Louis.  Boo.

- Camden's speech is sort of exploding.  He picks up on words and small phrases and tries really hard to repeat a lot of what we say.  His new favorite work is "basket," but it comes out sounding more like "batshit."

- He also has one random Spanish word - aqua.

-  We've been working on animal sounds and identifying body parts.  So far, he knows that cows say "moo," kitties say "meow," sheep say "baa," and dogs say "woof."  He can also point to his head, nose, ears, tummy, legs, and feet.

- I play on a women's slow pitch team and have for the past few years.  It was really hard for me at first to go from a highly competitive Divison I softball team to "just for fun" women's slow pitch.  I'm really enjoying it this year - except when we're scraping the barrel for players and those of us with "young legs" get to be the courtesy runners for some of the older ladies.

- Cam has also started to say, "No." He doesn't say it in a defiant way (yet), but usually if you ask him a question (any question), he responds with, "No?" as if he's unsure.

"Camden, do you want to go to Disneyland?"

"No?"

"Camden, do you want some water?"

"No?"

My favorite was the other morning when I caught him bracing himself on the sliding glass door, clearly pooping.  When he finished, I said, "Did you go poo poo?"  And of course, he said, "No?" complete with head shake.

- I wrote an entire blog post dedicated to our recent experience of switching daycare.  I keep debating on whether or not to post it, but the more time passes, the more I just want to forget about it.  I'll just say it was not a smooth experience trying to leave his old daycare.  We found an amazing in-home daycare that is in a great location in relation to our new house and my work, and couldn't be happier so far.

Right now the hardest thing for me to swallow is that he cried at drop off almost every single day at the old daycare, and he was there for six months.  I kept thinking it was separation anxiety, or habit, and that he would get over it.  I wondered if he didn't like it there or if something was wrong, but tried to assure myself that the tears and clinging would stop.  It never did.

He's been at new daycare for two weeks now and hasn't cried at a single drop off.  In fact, he barely seems to notice when I leave.  I get a kiss, and a wave bye-bye, and then he's busy playing with the kitchen set or whatever toy he's found.  At pickup, he doesn't ever seem ready to leave!  He's always surrounded by these cutie-patootie little girls, so I guess I don't blame him for not wanting to leave.

I'm sure that in time I will get over our fairly dramatic experience with old daycare, but right now I'm beating myself all while being incredibly thankful that he is now so happy.  I started to cry at a drop off last week, purely out of relief that I'm not leaving him in a state of tears and panic.

- All of a sudden I'm feeling more comfortable and confident in my job. The last two years I've been very intimidated by my technical knowledge and experience, and lacked the confidence shown by others around me. I have no idea what caused the change but I like it.

I know there is more. So much more. But this is all my overworked brain can muster and probably more than you wanted to know anyway.

Take Luck,
LP

The Move

We officially moved this past weekend and I officially never want to move ever, ever again.

When I starting packing up the Ridgemont house, I kept thinking that we didn't really have that much stuff and we could whip it out in a day.  Wrong, wrong, wrong, with an extra side of wrong.  Ryan and I were amazed at the amount of stuff we had packed into our 1,500 square foot home.

After we signed our closing documents last Monday night, our relator gave us our new keys and I commence the cleaning of the Terrace View house.  We purchased it as a short sale, and it was pretty obvious that the previous owners gave up on the upkeep of the home when they gave up paying for the home.  Mom and I started with the carpets on Tuesday night - vacuuming, spraying, scrubbing, and shampooing like crazy.  A few hours made a big difference.

I took Thursday off of work and spent the entire day cleaning the rest of the new house and started to wonder if they had owned cleaning supplies of any kind.  I'm not a clean freak by any means, so for me to say it was bad - is really saying something.  I totally understand them knowing that they were losing the home and losing motivation to keep things up - but good grief people you were still living there.  I worked my booty off.

Friday was moving day which meant Ryan making trips back and forth with the big stuff in the U-Haul, and me making trips back and forth with the smaller stuff in the Subaru.  Cam also had a hard little lump on his neck that wasn't going away, so I threw in an appointment with his pediatrician to confirm lymphadenitis (a swollen lymph node) just to make the day even more interesting. While Jess watched Cam, Ryan's buddy Mat came to help us out, and without him - we'd probably still be moving.  Just kidding, sort of.

Saturday we woke up feeling much better than we had anticipated. We kept moving out of Ridgemont and making trips to Terrace View.  Once all our crap was out of the house, I started the deep cleaning process and was so thankful that 1) it's only 1,500 square feet and 2) we are clean people so it didn't take a crazy amount of time and effort to get it done.  I started to feel a little sad knowing that we were leaving our first house and that soon, another family would be living in it.

Sunday we woke up feeling like we got hit by a New York City taxi cab, but persevered and went back to Ridgemont for the last of our stuff.   On the way, and proving just how pooped we were - we had McDonald's and Red Bull for breakfast.  Let me just say that other than their hashbrowns, I had never eaten McDonald's breakfast. Maybe this experience was influenced by my overall state of exhaustion, but I was drooling and swooning over my Sausage McMuffin like I haven't drooled or swooned over food in a long time.  It felt good to be bad.

We had to make one last trip to Ridgemont on Sunday afternoon to load up Dad's truck with the pile of crap that was left on the side of the yard, ready for the dump.  When we arrived, the property management lady was inside doing her walk-thru/inspection in preparation for the new tenants to move in Monday.  She is nice (but super condescending) and didn't waste any time in telling me that the cleanliness of the kitchen was unsatisfactory and that the tenants were "going to have a conniption fit."  I'm pretty sure I gave her the look of death and explained that the kitchen was cleaner than it has ever been.  She walked us through the "deficiencies" and proposed that we refund the tenants anywhere from $150-$200.  Yeah, no.  Not so much.

Long story short, between Ryan, my mom, and some neighbors, over six more hours were spent cleaning the kitchen, just to make sure there would be no reason in hell for the tenants to complain, or for the property management lady to make the same proposition again.

I'm not usually one to gush about how wonderful my hubby is.  I gush plenty about how he irritates me, clearly, but I have to say that Ryan really (and I mean, really) impressed me this past weekend by how much he stepped up.  I lost my shit when the lady was pointing out everything that was "unacceptable" in the kitchen, knowing how hard I worked to get it ready.  I knew/know she was just doing her job, but I was mentally and physically done and not up for doing anything else.  Ryan saw this, hugged me, and was lightning fast to tell me not to worry about it - that he would handle it.  Uhhhhm, I'm sorry, who are you?!  Whoever you are - you are amazing.

He stayed at Ridgemont until 1am.

So, like I said, many unexciting paragraphs ago - we are officially in our new house and getting settled, while new tenants are in the old house.  I drove by Ridgemont on Monday evening after picking Camden up from daycare and was surprised how sad I felt seeing someone else in our house.  I decided I shouldn't drive by there anymore.  It's still pretty chaotic at Terrace View with painters tackling rooms that needed therapy and boxes needing to be unloaded and organized.  Oh, and did I mention that Brock seems to be terrified of being left alone and is peeing all over the place? There's that, too.

The new house doesn't feel like "ours" quite yet, but I think it will once things quiet down a little bit.  We are loving the views, loving the layout of the house, and all the extra space we have.  Cam has had no trouble with the transition and seems to love running through the house and climbing up the stairs to his new bedroom. The backyard is only partially fenced so I am not loving taking the dogs out on their leashes and standing there while they do their business.  I'm pretty sure dogs like their privacy, too.

We now live 4.0 miles from Target and 4.2 miles from Panera Bread Co. AND Fro-Yo.  Dangerous, I tell ya.

We could not have done what we did without my parents going above and beyond and saying "yes" to anything we asked. They rock.

So, congratulations.  If you are still with me, you just finishing reading the least exciting blog post in the history of exciting blog posts.  You deserve a medal.  Or some fro-yo.

Take Luck,

Movin' On Up

I'll just cut to the chase and say: we're moving.

Not far.  A mere 10 miles west, within the same city.  I say, "moving' on up" because this house is more than twice the size as the home we currently live in.  Yowza.  I'm already having nightmares thinking about cleaning this beast.

It has 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.  Room to grow and room for guests, I suppose.

Because this was a short sale, buying this house has been a long and arduous process.  We weren't even talking about buying a new home, but when looking out of curiosity - we saw this place and knew we had to go take a peek.

Immediately, I was drooling over the deck, views, and storage capabilities (and of course wondering where we would put our Christmas tree). Ryan was drooling over the basement man cave.

We made an offer on January 28th.  The lender counter-offered 10 weeks later on April 8th, a pretty large jump from our offer.  We counter-offered their counter-offer on April 9th, not much higher than our initial offer - fully expecting them to decline.  So, you can imagine how shocked I was when on April 25th, I got an email from our relator saying that the lender accepted.

I was immediately excited with a large side of terrified.

The whole process had taken so long that I had sort of written it off and didn't expect anything to come of it.  Maybe to protect myself from being disappointed if it didn't work out?  I don't know.  The whole time we were waiting to hear from the lender we were in a constant yo-yo, wondering if it was a smart decision, the right house, blah blah blah.

We knew we weren't in a position to sell our current home, and the idea of trying to find renters and be landlords terrified me even more.  Like a super-sized side of terrified.

After several recommendations, we called a local property management group and signed an agreement for them to manage our property.  Not kidding when I say that the lady came and took photos of our house on Wednesday night, had them posted on the internet Friday, and by Monday morning - our home had been shown and an application signed.

So, holy shit.  That worked out well.

We close June 2nd.

I've spent the last few weeks tackling small projects around the house to get it ready for tenants, and packing/organizing a few boxes a night.  Let me just say that trying to pack and "organize" is really, really hard with an inquisitive and mischievous little person running amok in the house.  Can't wait for when I have to unpack and try to get a new house functional with my little tripping hazard.

The house needs a little TLC and some sewious counseling in interior paint, but otherwise, it's ready for the Peters family to make it our new (and for-ev-er) home.  Needless to say after getting over the "oh, shits," we are super excited.  I'm a little worried about how Cam will adjust to a new house and new bedroom, but I hope he surprises me.

I've decided I should not be allowed in Target, Home Depot, or World Market unsupervised for the next six months or so, because lately I look around and feel compelled to buy one of everything.

Kidding.  Sort of.

Weekends

I started writing this post last Monday, in hopes of sharing the highlights from our weekend.  Here we are, a week later and I've already forgotten what we did.  I even had to think (sort of) hard about what we just did this weekend.  Not good.  I'm telling you - mommy brain is a real thing.

Anyway, the highlight of last weekend was that we took Camden to meet the Easter Bunny.

Overall, I'd say it went really well.  Why does the Easter Bunny have to be so creepy?

This weekend kicked off with a new session of shrimp swim lessons and a birthday party at an indoor play center where we continued to inflict torture on our child and make him go down the giant inflatable slide.  He was piiiiiiissed and pursed his lips in a very Derek Zoolander/Blue Steel fashion for the rest of the afternoon.

You can't tell, but seconds later he was screaming with a "why did you do that to me?!" look on his face.  I thought for sure he would like the inflatable farm area that was just for wee kiddos.  And I was wrong, wrong, wrong.  I'm not sure I've ever seen his face get so red or the veins in his neck and head pop in such a way.  That goodness we located the child-size shopping carts, because then all was well in his tiny world.

A particularly high point in the weekend was discovering a Boy Band station on Pandora.  My inner-14 year old self has been shamelessly singing along to Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and 98 Degrees more than I should even begin to admit.

Sunday we ventured out on our first family hike.  Because I wasn't sure how Hammy would do being in the Ergo for a 5-mile hike, I wanted to stay close to home.  Thankfully, he did great and found it hysterical to yank my ponytail the. entire. way. down.

After our hike we rewarded ourselves with Panera - lots of Panera, complete with Frozen Caramel "smoothies."  Do we live it up or what?

Totally blog worthy news - Camden fell in the backyard and got his first legitimate knee scrape.  He hardly noticed but for some reason I took it a little hard.

The weekend ended on a high note and we were literally cheering at the television when watching the latest Game of Thrones episode.  Two words.  Purple Wedding.

Hope you all had a great weekend.

We All Survived

My brother and his family bought a new house and were moving this past weekend. Knowing I wouldn't be much help with physically moving them (or maybe due to a temporary lapse in my sanity) I offered to watch Kennedy and Riley for the day.

I spent many hours with them before Camden was born, but this would be the first time I watched them since. They LOVE Cam and he just goes with the flow so I didn't think it would be too tough - just tiring.

As luck would have it, my little man cub has been (finally) cutting top molars and woke up with a faucet in place of his little button nose. He was grumpy, clingy, and overall the opposite of his normal gem-like personality. Humbled

Really, the day went well and the big kids only got overly rambunctious a few times - but that's to be expected. What I didn't expect (or rather, had forgotten) was the absolutely historical things that innocently come out of Kenny and Riley's mouth.

- Riley kept calling Brock "Brick" and neither kid could keep Sonny's name straight (one of their other aunts has two weiner dogs named Finny and Lucy so naturally...). By the end of the day they were getting close but calling her "Sunnyshine."

- Because he's cutting teeth, Camden's hands had been in his mouth allllll morning. Camden put his hand on Riley's arm and he said "Uhhh, Aunt Lauren? Baby Camden's hands are really sweaty."

- Kennedy: "I think my dad's favorite color is gray." Me: "Why do you say that?" Kennedy: "Because his hair keeps getting grayer and grayer."

- Riley: "Does Uncle Ryan have a pump in his pants?" Me: "Uhhhhhh what?" Riley: "Does he have a pump in his pants?" (Clearly annoyed and holding up little sports balls that are flat and need to be pumped with some some air)

- Kennedy, commenting on Camden's fascination with his noise blocking ear muffs - "He likes to wear them so he can't hear you."

- Kennedy, after I tried to help her with a Frozen online game, but ended up getting Kristoff eaten by a wolf - "(heavy sigh) You were supposed to HELP me but you blew it."

I can't wait to start documenting "Camdenisms" and the funny things Hammy says.

For now, I have confirmed my previous decision to not pursue a career in in-home child care. And after this experience, it's quite possible that we will only have two children. I only have two eyes, two arms, and two legs, and after today, I feel like I would need an extra of each to wrangle three.

By the end of the day, Camden was in rough shape and rare form.   He practically refused to take off his ear muffs and I was willingly giving him Roberto just to keep the crying and shrieking at bay.

The good news? We all survived.
