Fill in the Blank Friday

It's Friday and I'm filling in some blanks with Lauren!  Hooray!

[1] Today is great because it's Friday.  Duh.

[2] Tomorrow I will thoroughly enjoy sleeping in and relaxing.

[3] My favorite time of the day is the morning because that's when I get to decide how I'm going to make the most of the day ahead.

[4] Sometimes you just have to sing it loud and proud.  It's more fun that singing quietly... Even if it annoys your husband.

[5] A song that I just can't get enough of lately is Addicted by Morgan Page (feat. Greg Laswell).

[6] My favorite accessory is my wedding ring(s).  I'm not much of an accessorize-r, otherwise.

[7] My favorite thing about this week was celebrating. Our friends welcomed their baby boy, Alexander James on Monday, and my Daddio turned the big 6-0 yesterday!

Dear Monday

Monday, again.  Time to write some letters with Megan.

Dear Monday, You flew by.  Marathon and back-to-back meetings will do that to ya.

Dear Hair, You have been seriously cooperative the last few days.  Let's keep it that way.

Dear Daddio, I will try not to hit you in the balls during batting practice tonight.

Dear Slowpitch Season, It is really hard to believe that you are upon us already.  A one-day tourney is scheduled for Saturday, and a part of me is hoping it gets rained out.  My body just isn't ready yet.

Dear Kennedy, On Friday you tried to remove my tattoo by licking your finger and vigorously rubbing it on the top of my foot.  That didn't work (shocking) so you tried using friction, in the form of Riley's hot wheel cars.  Needless to say, the tattoo remains.  Good try, little one.

Dear Tiff, Thank you so much for introducing me to Birdy.  She is just lovely.

Dear Hubby, Thank you for volunteering me to take you and Mat to the gym this morning.  At 5am.  You are a butthead, but I just can't say no when you turn on the charm.

Take Luck,
LP

Fill in the Blank Friday

Hooray for Friday!

Time to fill in some blanks with Lauren!

[1] If money wasn't an issue, the first thing I would cross off my list is redoing our kitchen, bathrooms, and roof.  Oh, the joy of being a homeowner.

[2] Picking apart my Subway sandwiches and eating everything individually is something I like that other people think is weird.

[3] If my life were a movie right now, the title would be "The Busy Lady Diaries."

[4] Three things I am looking forward to this month are Valentine's Day, an extra day off of work (President's Day), and getting closer to the end of this semester.

[5] My favorite song to sing in the shower is "Forever" by the Beach Boys.

[6] If I found out that the production of Sobe Fuji Apple Pear Lifewater was ending this month, I would go out and buy as much as I could tomorrow.

[7] One thing I'll never grow tired of is enjoying the little things with Ryan.

Wishing everyone a great weekend!!

Fill in the Blank Friday

Another Friday is here and you'll hear no complaints from me!

Filling in some blanks with Lauren!

[1] The last thing I ate was a bowl of Special K Red Berry cereal.

[2] The last song I listened to was Hurt So Good by John Mellancamp.

[3] Using the letters in my name I can spell [Lauren] run, ran, lure, lunar, are, ear, urn, lane, real, near, learn, lean... I'm tired.

[4] If I had to dress in one color for the rest of my life I would pick purple.  Green.  No, purple.  OK, green.  Hopefully I'm never truly faced with this decision.

[5] If you were to look in my bag right now you'd find an Erin Condren planner, my wallet, chapstick, throat lozenges, keys, and some gloves.

[6] When I finish filling in the blanks I'm going to grab a fleecey blanket, my puppies, and curl up into a ball on the couch.

[7] My all time favorite song to dance to is Thriller (Michael Jackson) and Can't Touch This (MC Hammer).  Apparently I'm indecisive today.

Wishing everyone a fabulous Friday and weekend!!

Fingers and toes are still crossed for snow in the PNW!!

Take Luck,

Dear Monday

Another Monday, here already.  Linking up with Megan for Dear Monday letters!

Dear Monday, You + 4:15am alarm = Not cool.

Dear How I Met Your Mother, The Hubs and I started watching you  from the very beginning this weekend.  I must say - I like you.

Dear Throat, Please. Stop. Hurting.  I happen to like eating.  And swallowing.

Dear "Heaven is for Real," I loved reading Colton's sweet story.

Dear Kennedy & Riley, We spent some time together on Saturday and you requested that I build you a fork.  It took me awhile to figure out what the heck you meant.  The chairs, pillows, and blankets were the pieces to the fork puzzle.  Between fork (fort) and puker (computer), you two are just the cutest ever.

Dear Hubby, A few days ago I was singing.  A sizzling show tune, I'm sure.  You said, "Please sing something else."  I transitioned into Lady Gaga's "Marry the Night" and got as far as, "I'm gonna maarrrryy... The niiiiiiight!" and realized that was all of the song I knew.  I then said, "Darnit!  I don't know this song!"  And you said, "Great.  Sing that one!"  Your wit and honesty is something that I (mostly) love about you.

Happy Monday, people!

Gingerbread Houses

I have been in somewhat of a blogging rut lately.

I've been participating in my weekly little link-ups which is all fine and dandy, but I just couldn't muster up any good writing material. Not saying that my previous entries have been good... But it was at least stuff that I felt was worth writing about.

I digress.

My brother and his family recently came back to the mainland from a four-month temporary duty at Pearl Harbor (jerks!). Josh and his lovely wife were going to a Christmas party on Friday night and asked if my little sister, Rachel and I would watch the kiddos while they enjoyed some adult time.

Duh.

When we arrived, the kids were doing what they do best.

Dancing to YouTube videos.

Both Kennedy and Riley love to sing and dance.  Riley can shake his booty like no other toddler I've seen.

Kennedy kept insisting on Lady Gaga videos, and after some deliberation - we decided that we could play the songs but would minimize the screen since most of her videos are weird and inappropriate for little tykes.

I found Willow Smith's music video of "Whip My Hair" and Kennedy was not having it.  She kept saying, "I don't like this song."

So, Aunt Rachel and Aunt Lauren put their pony tails on the very top of their heads and began to "whip it."
Kenny started to like it more.  And then insisted that like her aunts, she wanted a high pony tail and to whip it too.

So we gave her one and she did.  But the pony didn't last long.

The music video ended and I bet you can guess what little miss was singing and bopping to.

Haley had bought two gingerbread house making kits - one for Mia and the other for (mostly) Kennedy. Riley could help but we knew his interest in the activity would fade fast. I don't know any almost-two year old who is any different.

The last (and only) time that I decorated a gingerbread house was in 7th grade.  And I distinctly remember hating the experience because trying to put the house together was a seriously frustrating challenge, and then when trying to decorate it - the house would just fall apart again and I would have to start over.  Now (by the grace of God, I'm sure!), they have prefabricated gingerbread houses that are stur-dy and supply you with all the goodies necessary for decorating.

So, after the dancing, we commenced the gingerbread house decorating.

I thought Kenny should wear a little apron since we were going to be playing with frosting and other sticky things, and she was happy to oblige.

She was so excited to get to decorate her house with the help of her Aunties.

Riley was eager to help.  And add to the mess and madness.

I had to keep scolding Kennedy and Riley for putting the candy in their mouths and not on the gingerbread house.  We certainly did not want to deal with the aftermath of a sugar rush.

The girls were really happy with the outcome of their houses - and Rachy and I were impressed.

Gingerbread house decorating took us right up to bedtime.

I am not afraid to admit that I used the Santa-card on Kennedy to get her to go to bed.  The conversation went something like this:

Aunt Lauren: OK, Kenny.  It's time to get in bed! Say goodnight to Aunt Rachy.
Kennedy: I don't want to go to bed.
Aunt Lauren: I know, kiddo but if you don't - you know who can't come see you in two nights!!
(Kennedy turns and looks at Aunt Rachel)
Kennedy: Goodnight.

She scooted her little booty into her bedroom, grabbed a book, was read said book, and we didn't see her for the rest of the night.

Mia only had to be told 23 times to get her jammers on and get into bed.

Riley was fighting sleep like a mad-man but finally succumbed to the sandman when he and I got all snuggly on the couch together.  He even put his chubby little hand on mine just before falling asleep.

Serious heart melting.

Dear Monday

Another Monday is here.  Time for Dear Monday with Megan.

Dear Monday, Does it seem counter-productive that I write this at the end of the day... Instead of at the beginning?  Nah.

Dear Presentation, Please pass smoothly and quickly tomorrow, and with no questions asked.

Dear Exercise, Even though I feel more motivated to partake in you when I am otherwise indisposed (ahem, at work), I am always happy when we've finished our time together.

Dear Sonny, This morning I was convinced that you were on crack.  Tearing through the house at 4:00am is not cool.

Dear Christmas Music, You brighten any mood.

Dear 11/22/63, I am hooked on you.  I am even dragging out my reading so I can keep reading your goodness!  Well done, Stephen King.  Well done.

Dear Hubby, Last night I opened our "junk" drawer to find that you had unwrapped a new pack of gum.  How did I know this?  Because you left the empty wrapper in the drawer.  When I pointed this out to you, you tried to blame it on Brock and said that he has bad breath and needed a piece of gum.  You are so silly.  And unbelievable.

Dear Monday

Dear Monday, I woke up with a headache-headache.  It evolved throughout the day into a work-headache.  Let's not make this a pattern... Mmkay?

Dear Beef Strogenoff, Why can't I get your sauce right?  I'm starting to think that you will never taste as good as Mom's.  I'm not giving up - I will conquer you, yet!

Dear Mellow Tunes, Listening to you while making dinner tonight was so soothing and wonderful.  I needed that.

Dear P90x and Tony Horton, I hate you and love you at the same time.  But mostly hate you.

Dear Snow-in-Forecast, Please come.  And dump buckets.

Dear Kennedy, Next time I Skype with you - Please at least pretend to be as excited as I am.  Waiting 10 whole seconds before asking, "Where's Ryan?" would make my heart very happy.

Dear Liam, I'm hoping that someday you will Skype with your Uncle Ryan and immediately ask him, "Where's Lauren?"  That would make my heart equally happy.

Dear Hubby, This makes two weeks in a row that you have come home bearing ice cream treats.  Is this a ploy to fatten me up?  Or are you just trying to be sweet?  I just can't decide.

Hoping everyone had a wonderful Monday!

Take Luck,

Dear Monday

Time for another Dear Monday link-up with Megan at Happy Day!

Dear Monday, It was incredibly easier rolling (literally) out of bed this morning knowing that you were the first of only three working days this week.  Hallelujah.

Dear Sonny, We (along with our checking account) thank you sincerely for the fact that your body decided to shape up and fix the issues that were going inside.  We missed your spunk last week.

Dear Fall Semester, Please let the remaining 5 or so weeks fly by.  My brain and I would really appreciate it.

Dear Bon Iver, I kept seeing rave reviews about you over at Today's Letters, but until today had not experienced you for myself.  I like you.

Dear Away We Go, I watched you on Saturday night.  I laughed and I cried while thoroughly enjoying your soundtrack.

Dear Hubby, Thank you for watching Elf with me yesterday.  There is nothing like couch-snuggles and belly laughs when watching a Christmas movie… In November.  You are simply wonderful.

Happy Monday, everyone!

Day 11: Dirty Dancing

Day 11: What is your favorite movie and why?

Hands down.

Dirty Dancing.

This is my favorite movie because it doesn't matter how many times I have watched it (a lot) I still get emotional and get sucked in.  Also, I will always watch it when its being aired on TV.  And I get excited about it.

The music is great.  The dancing is smokin'.

It's all about love and loving who you love.

My favorite part (although it is hard to choose) is when Johnny (Patrick Swayze) is saying goodbye to Baby (Jennifer Gray) and he says, "I'll never be sorry."  And she says, "Neither will I."

Tear jerker.  Heart wrencher.  Everytime.

Day 4: iTunes Shuffling

Day 4: Put your iTunes on shuffle and list 10 songs that pop up.  How do they describe you?

[1] Josh Kelley - Hey, Katie - I used to enjoy this song, because I really like Josh Kelley and I thought it was sweet that he was singing about his wife, Katherine Hiegel.  Then I started to not like her so much, and now this song is usually skipped when it comes on.

[2] Colbie Caillat - Feelings Show - How do you not love Colbie?  Her voice and songs put me at ease - Even when the darn girl can't tell her man how she feels.

[3] Green Day - She's a Rebel - I love Green Day, and was happy to see this one pop up.  It's so upbeat.  I would certainly not describe myself as a rebel... but maybe some days.

[4] Jon McLaughlin - Beating My Heart - This is the only song of Jon McLaughlin that is on my iTunes, but I love his voice, and the beat of the song is great.  I can't help but sing along.

[5] Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated - This song is filled with emotion, and that's what I like about it.  Sometimes you just need to hear these kinds of tunes.

[6] Lucky Boys Confusion - Hey, Driver - Lucky Boys Confusion reminds me of college and not having any responsibilities except softball and class.  This one is great to workout to, or just to pump yourself up.

[7] Carly Simon - You're So Vain - I love Carly Simon.  And how can you hear this song and think about Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days?

[8] Avril Lavigne - Fall to Pieces - Definitely a song I can relate to.  I think its funny to listen to an Avril song like this, and then listen to one like this.

[9] The Beatles - Let it Be - The Beatles.  What else is there to say?

[10] Sugarland - Stuck Like Glue - Definitely a good song to remind anyone of the ups and downs in relationships, and how at the end of the day - you just hope there are more ups than downs.

Chasing Cars

In my inaugural blog post, I shined some light on why I titled my blog "Chasing Cars, Hearts and Seahorses."  Chasing Cars is one of my favorite songs of all time, so it seems appropriate to incorporate it into my blogging voyage.

Last night, while Ryan and I were watching Just Go With It, one of the songs that played during the movie was a mash-up of Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars" and "Every Breath You Take" by The Police entitled "Every Car You Chase."

Musical bliss.

Turn it on, crank it up, and enjoy.

Oh, and watch Just Go With It.

We laughed so hard, we cried.

Love Letter

Dear Husband of 10 Months,

Happy 10 Month Anniversary!... Whoop whoop - I know, I know.  Let me enjoy celebrating our monthly milestones until we hit the big one year, mmkay?

We had a super romantical dinner of six-inch subs from Subway while watching your Cards play San Fransisco.  While we were eating I couldn't help but think of this song:

...If you were a wink, I'd be a nod
If you were a seed, well I'd be a pod.
If you were the floor, I'd wanna be the rug
And if you were a kiss, I know I'd be a hug...

Love Letter

Dear Hubby,

Our attempt at finding the right music station yesterday while putting up the lights was pretty lousy.  We both commented on our liking for this one lovely song that played, Andrew Allen's "Loving You Tonight."  After listening to it a little more and closely, I believe it fits us quite perfectly.

My Name is Lauren...

... And I've started a blog.

I have wanted to start a blog for awhile now and well, I finally did it.  Time was one factor that kept me from embarking on this adventure earlier.  But the bigger issues that kept me from it was figuring out what I would blog about and what I would call/title said blog.  A lot of the blogs I currently follow are cute and crafty mom's who have cute kids and lots of cute stories to share.  Well, I don't have cute kids (ones without four legs, anyway) and am certainly not crafty (only in my dreams).

Then, it hit me.  I don't have to blog about any one particular topic, but I can explore a glorious array of randomness.  And as far as a blog title, if I'm blogging about randomness, a random title will fit perfectly, right?  Hence the title "Chasing Cars, Hearts and Seahorses."  How did I arrive at such a title?  Send warm thanks to tunes such as Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars", Jenny Owen Youngs' "Here is a Heart" and Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Dosed".  They provided my inspiration.

I hope you enjoy reading tales from the life we lead.  I hope you laugh, relate, appreciate sarcasm, and visit frequently.

Take luck.
