Embrace the Camera - 10/24/13

I Embraced the Camera several times this past week with my hubby and little munchkin man.

Here we are at the doctor's office, where I learned my son inherited my eyebrow raising abilities (see evidence below) and that he also has his fourth (yes, fourth) ear infection.  Hello, ENT.

My parents took me out for a belated-birthday dinner, and our little family was dressed head to toe (OK, head to waist) in St. Louis Cardinals gear.

Finally, perhaps one of my favorite pictures of me and my little love - my little sister caught a little mama smoochy at the pumpkin patch. I think I'll treasure this one forever.

Now, go and embrace the camera with someone you love!

Embrace the Camera - 9/5/13

My parents hosted a Labor Day BBQ, and we took the opportunity to take some family pictures.

This long-legged beauty made me an aunt almost 13 years ago.  I still vividly remember waiting at the hospital anticipating her arrival.  When seeing Jaiden on Sunday, I couldn't get over how beautiful (seriously, beautiful) she is.  

We practiced being sassy together.  I'm not very sassy, but apparently I'm pretty good at tossing my head around like a diva.

 Sometimes I forget (OK, take for granted) how lucky I am to have my sisters and brother.  So much of who I am is because of them.

Even though we were missing two important people for our "kids and grandkids" picture (Ryan and Mia), we took one anyway.

Embrace the Camera - 8/22/13

I've been participating in Marta's monthly walk/running challenges for over a year now.  The past several months, I've brought a little buddy along to conquer the miles - usually in our beloved jogging stroller.

On Monday, someone was feeling less than stellar (I assume having three teeth trying to poke through at once might make any reasonable person irritable) and quite clingy, so instead of strapping him into the jogging stroller for what was sure to be a short walk, I grabbed the baby carrier and strapped him to me.

My little partner was making all sorts of little grunting noises at all the things he was seeing from an upright position.  He loved it.

I decided that carrying a 17+ pound baby for two miles qualified as weight lifting, too.

Camden has been my saving grace this week.  A rough week at work means extra, extra baby snuggles and kisses with my hilbilly-one-top-toothed-baby.  Whether he likes it or not.

Embrace the Camera - 7/25/13

I've been following Emily at the anderson crew for quite some time now.  One of my favorite parts of her blog is "Embrace the Camera."  Embrace the Camera is just a way of encouraging mama's (or anyone for that matter) to turn the camera around and get in the picture instead of always being the one taking the pictures.

It wasn't until Tiff wrote this post about getting in the picture that I really thought about the pictures we have that are of Camden and me.  Look at my Instagram feed (OK, let's be honest - InstaCam) and it is flooded (literally) with snapshots of my boy - most of them by himself.  Very few are of him and me, him and Ryan, or worse - the three of us.

In the beginning, I didn't want my picture taken.  I was tired and disheveled, and it was just easy to quickly snap photos of Camden.  Now, I'm less tired and (hopefully) a lot less disheveled, so my only real excuse is that I don't want all of our pictures together to be selfies.  Oh, and Ryan is a horrible photographer.

Times they are a changin'.  I give you my first installment of Embrace the Camera.

Yesterday, I participated in a Virtual 5K with The Viefhaus Sisters and asked Ryan to snap a picture of me and my wogging buddy when we were done and sweaty.

Someone was just more interested in our running bib.

My goal is to consciously get in more pictures.  More pictures with Camden.  More pictures with Ryan.  And to take more pictures of us as a family.

Will I do this every single week?  Probably not.  But I can sure try.  Because Camden is growing so fast.  And the truth is - Camden doesn't care that there's baby sweet potatoes on my shirt and in my hair, that I don't have make-up on, that I have dark circles and bags under my eyes, that my hair is a hot-sweet-potato-mess, and that I haven't showered in two days.  Someday, he's going to want to see pictures of him and his mama.  Probably not until he's 30.  But whatever.  It's important.
